What it is
TB-500 is the designation used in research supply for synthetic peptide material corresponding to thymosin β-4, a small actin-binding peptide present across mammalian tissues and among the more abundant peptides found in cytoplasm. Its defining structural feature is an actin-binding motif that allows it to sequester monomeric G-actin, which is why the molecule appears wherever cytoskeletal dynamics are under study.
The material is produced synthetically rather than extracted from tissue. It ships lyophilised — a dry powder in a sealed vial, reconstituted in the laboratory with bacteriostatic water — with a molecular weight of 4963.4 g/mol on the batch record.
What the research explores
Thymosin β-4 and its synthetic counterparts are studied for their role in cytoskeletal regulation, which places them across a wide span of preclinical repair literature.
Areas of investigation include:
- G-actin sequestration, and the assembly and disassembly of actin filaments
- Cell migration in culture, including endothelial and epithelial model systems
- Angiogenesis and vessel formation in animal models
- Dermal and corneal wound-model research
- Cardiac tissue models following experimental injury
All of the above is preclinical. The peptide is supplied for laboratory research and has no approved application in humans.
Questions
Why is it supplied as a dry powder?
Lyophilisation removes the water that drives peptide degradation, so the sealed dry material is far more stable in transit and on the shelf than a solution would be. It is reconstituted in the laboratory immediately before the work it is intended for.
What does the certificate of analysis cover?
The COA reports identity confirmation and purity by HPLC for the specific batch in your vial, alongside the batch identifier on the label. Every synthesis run has one on file and we will send the PDF on request.
How should it be stored?
Sealed and lyophilised, keep it cool, dry and out of direct light. After reconstitution the vial should be refrigerated and regarded as a short-lived preparation rather than a stock item.
What is in the package?
The sealed vial and its batch paperwork. Reconstitution fluid and supplies are separate catalogue items, and nothing arrives pre-mixed or pre-loaded.
