What it is
Delta sleep-inducing peptide is a nonapeptide — Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu — first isolated in the 1970s from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits under experimentally induced slow-wave activity. It was named for the electroencephalographic band its discoverers were observing, and the name has stuck for half a century despite the underlying mechanism never being resolved.
DSIP has no confirmed receptor and no agreed mode of action. It is better described as one of the older unsolved problems in neuropeptide chemistry than as a characterised signalling molecule. The synthetic material ships lyophilised in a sealed vial, reconstituted in the laboratory with bacteriostatic water.
What the research explores
DSIP is studied as an open question. The literature is decades old, thin and inconsistent, and that is a large part of why the peptide continues to attract attention.
Areas that have been examined:
- Electroencephalographic delta-wave activity in animal models, the original observation
- Circadian and chronobiological rhythm studies
- Corticotropin and somatotropin release in rodent endocrine models
- Stress-response and thermoregulation endpoints in animals
- Attempts to identify a binding site, none of which have produced a confirmed receptor
No consistent effect has been established across this work. DSIP has no approved application in humans and is supplied strictly as a research material.

Where does the name come from?
From the delta band on an electroencephalogram. The peptide was isolated during experiments on slow-wave activity in rabbits and named after the observation that prompted the search, not after a confirmed mechanism.
What does the certificate of analysis cover?

How should the vial be stored?
Sealed and lyophilised, keep it cool, dry and out of direct light. Ambient temperature during transit is normal for material in this form. Refrigerate the vial once it has been reconstituted.
